How the BMI Calculator Works

Enter your height and weight and the calculator applies the standard BMI formula: weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared (kg/m²). If you use pounds and inches, the formula is (pounds ÷ inches²) × 703. Your result is then matched to the standard adult categories: underweight below 18.5, healthy from 18.5 to 24.9, overweight from 25 to 29.9, and obese at 30 or above.

BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. It does not distinguish muscle from fat, so very muscular people can score high while being lean, and it is not designed for children, pregnancy, or competitive athletes.
